Whatever you call it, online word of mouth is interesting brands again because new analytical tools are making it possible to define its role in the overall marketing mix. Viral marketing agency DMC’s MD Justin Kirby agrees. “I think ‘undernet’ or ‘people- generated media’ are probably better terms than consumer-generated media, which automatically suggests everyone is a target market,” he says.
